Progress shouldn't stop at a full grid.
We saw it up close: companies with good plans to grow, electrify and become more sustainable, held up by a connection that couldn't keep up. And we saw the frustration that creates. On one hand you have to decarbonise; on the other you're told you'll wait years for extra capacity.
What struck us: there is often far more possible than companies think. The room is usually already in the existing system, you just need to know where to look. That's why we started FlexEdge: to show companies what is possible within the limits of the grid, and to get them moving again.
Our heart is with small and medium-sized businesses in the Netherlands. That segment is hit just as hard by grid congestion as the large players, but often stands alone. That's where we want to make the difference.
The people behind FlexEdge.
From our office in Leiden we work closely together on every assignment. We're a young company in the making, and we'll be expanding our team in the period ahead.
Energy experts from both sides of the meter.
We both have a technical background in energy systems and years of experience in strategic advice. But what really sets our work apart is that we know the problem from two sides.
Behind the meter sits your business: what is strategically needed, and what can your process handle? In front of the meter sits the grid operator. At Stedin, Joris was responsible for flex tenders, the procurements through which grid operators buy flexibility from companies to relieve the grid. He made that move deliberately: because the problem so often sat with the grid, he wanted to understand from the inside how it works.
That dual perspective means our advice holds up on both sides of the meter. No plans that stall in practice on the grid operator's rules, and no technical story that ignores the strategic reality of your business.
Open, pragmatic, and built on trust.
We don't keep our cards close to our chest. We like to work with partners and share our knowledge, because we're convinced you get further together than alone.
The same goes internally: at FlexEdge everyone gets plenty of freedom and responsibility. We're building not only good solutions for our clients, but also a place where people enjoy their work.
